Trev's Tack Room

Watson has been a name synonymous with quality Horse Covers and Equestrian Accessories since 1947, when Frank Watson opened his business at 161 Ponsonby Road. Frank had been manufacturing Cow and Horse Covers since 1926, for Hawkes Bay Farmers Co-op. Frank's four sons were involved with the business. Trevor and Ray both qualified as Saddlers and after successfully completing their apprenticeships, they returned to work in the family business.

F.A. Watson & Sons became the country's largest manufacturing Saddlers, but a decline in Farm Horse numbers due to factors such as Farm Bikes and mechanisation, meant the company changed focus to Luggage in the 1960's and were eventually purchased by the FLIGHT group, which are still manufacturing today.

The Horse Cover business lived on with Trevor, in Otahuhu, while Ray continued with Luggage and Leather Work.

Ray moved the business to Waiuku in the mid 1980’s to a property in Glenbrook, where he steadily built up is Luggage business but also took in a lot of Saddlery repairs, due to the large population of Horse lovers in the area.

When Trevor died in 1989, Ray took over the Horse Cover patterns and they are now an integral part of the business.

The business has been quietly flourishing in its location at 1 Martyn Street, Waiuku, and now we are ready to supply and service all of your Equestrian requirements. In 2001 the business was sold to Trevor Littlejohn as Ray moved towards retirement and daughter, Lauren, still works with new owner, Trevor, to ensure the continuation of the quality product and service.
